Excommunication
From LanceaSanctum
Excommunication is simply a way of saying that an individual PC has been thrown out of the covenant according to the rules in the MET Requiem book. However, the Lancea Sanctum have added several additional points to that presented in the rules.
[edit] Specifics of Excommunication
Not all excommunications are equal. They have several specific bans, primarly relating to whether or not the individual will be allowed continued contact with the Sanctified. The two main types of excommunication are tolerati, meaning the excommunicate individual may have some (limited) contact with other Sanctified, and vitandi, which means nearly all contact with the Sanctified is forbidden.
In addition to tolerati and vitandi, a writ of excommunication typically includes several other bans, though it is possible for the writ to specifically allow some practices that would normally be forbidden.
- Res sacræ: Forbidden either to receive or administer the sacraments.
- Ritus: Forbidden to participate in the Mass, offices, or other sacred ceremonies. Tolerati may still be present for Ritus, but vitandi are not allowed to even be present.
- Communio: They are omitted from all public statements of the Lancea Sanctum, to include official prayers, etc. The tolerati may still be included in private prayers and statements, but the vitandi may not be included in them.
- Crypta: He is forbidden any kind of religious burial or ceremony for his death. He may not be buried in sacred ground.
- Potestas: He is forbidden any communication with ecclesiastical jurisdiction except to negotiate the conditions of his return to the Lancea Sanctum (always allowed for both tolerati and vitandi).
- Prædia sacra: He is barred from acquiring or using ecclesiastic benefices, and forfeits all such benefices already held.
- Forum: He is considered an exile from ecclesiatical society, and therefore from all tribunals. One who is tolerati may be summoned before such a tribunal to satisfy a third party in the dispute, but this is not allowed for vitandi.
- Civilia jura: He is barred from ordinary relations with the Sanctified (and the prohibition applies to the Sanctified dealing with him) specifically regarding prayer (orare), marks of honor and respect (vale), meals (mensa negatur), the exchange letters with the Sanctified (os), and having business and social relations with them (communio). Sometimes a tolerati is allowed os and/or communio.
[edit] The Excommunicated
The following individuals have been excommunicated from the Sanctified:
- Gabriel Cruz, former Acting Bishop of Lamar, Missouri, excommunication vitandi, a jure latæ sententiae, statim, ipso facto, res sacræ, ritus, communio, crypta, potestas, prædia sacra, forum, civilia jura (orare, vale, mensa negatur, os, communio), as of June 30, 2006.

The following individuals have had their excommunication lifted:
- Gabrael, former Bishop of Richmond, Virginia, had application of excommunication drawn up against him. However, that application was quickly withdrawn and rendered moot by Bishop Sabineah Impes Larkin to a call of pending Synod.
- excommunication tolerati, a jure latæ sententiae, statim, ipso facto, res sacræ, ritus, communio, crypta, potestas, prædia sacra, forum, civilia jura (orare, vale, mensa negatur), as of April 17, 2006.
- The Synod determined that Gabriel was not stripped of Status or excommunicated, but instead was to be seen as Layman and have all of his positions within the Sanctified removed (Bishop, Confessor, Inquisitor), as of April 29th, 2006
