Marcel was sired by a gangrel known as Peter Vanmalen near the end of the Second World War. He was a corporal in the Belgian Secret Army and his sire wanted him to continue his operations against the German troops. During one such operation, just before the end of the war, Marcel was caught and "executed". He was shot into torpor and dumped in a grave together with 5 mortal companions. Almost 62 years later he woke up and found much had changed in his beloved Limburg.
Marcel had disappeared for quite some time, together with his beloved bishop Laurence de Villenfagne de Vogelsanck. Since their disappearance the Word of Longinus all but disappeared in the Domain of Limburg. Now he has returned to bring back the Word to the Damned of Limburg.

- Bishop Salvius brought the Holy message and converted Marcel
- Was until recently the spokesman and factual (if not official) leader of the Lancea Sanctum in Domain Limburg.
- Stepped aside for bishop Laurence de Villenfagne de Vogelsanck when she returned from torpor.
- Acted as protector for bishop Laurence de Villenfagne de Vogelsanck and every Lancea Sanctum member in Limburg.
- Maintained very strong bonds with his "brothers" of clan Gangrel, even with those of the Circle of the Crone.
- In his hands a comfy chair became a fearsome weapon. Marcel learnt how to fight in the local bar and during the Second World War he was often forced to use anything he could lay his hands on to defend himself.
- Marcel had a protective attitude towards others of Domain Limburg. This had caused some to look to the Lancea Sanctum for guidance.
- When Marcel was in a blood frenzy, he was beaten within inches of Final Death by Ektor with blood whips. Grandmaster Ektor who did this to rescue Marcel, a fellow knight from the Ordo Praesidium Sanctum subsequently transported him to Keizersberg. Lucas Desmet brought him from Keizersberg to the Noviciate in Halen where he was taken out of torpor.
- Marcel withdrew all his support to the Ordo Praesidium Sanctum when he felt that threats to his person from within the Covenant and the Order were inadequately answered by the leaders of the Order.
- Marcel had disappeared, but now has returned together with a strong covenant of Sanctified.
- Was accused of having black veins in his aura, when he visited the Domain of Louvain and was staked.
- Was found guilty of Diablery by the inquisition of the Low Lands and will be executed late Oktober 2008 for his crime.

This is how Marcel was usually dressed before his disappearance, but since his suits and caps were given away back then (see his last will), he needed a different outfit.

- Despite the fact that he has spent more than 60 years in torpor, the potence of Marcel's blood is undeniable. It is said that his inner anger gives his vitae greater strength.
- Marcel is plagued by the ghosts of his former comrades from the Second World War.
- Marcel was Blood Bound to bishop Laurence de Villenfagne de Vogelsanck. That is why she could take over the Lancea Sanctum in Limburg so easily.
- Marcel doesn't actually believe in the Testament of Longinus. He was ordered by the Invictus to join the Lancea Sanctum.
- Marcel's sire is also the sire of Gerhardt Thielemann of the Circle of the Crone.
- Marcel Vanerum is actually a halfwit, who is tolerated by his superiors for his great loyalty.
- Marcel has a mutual Blood Bond with Gerhardt Thielemann of the Circle of the Crone.
- He's in love with Els Swennen of the Circle of the Crone in Limburg.
- Carries a sockpuppet on his person at all times.
- For some reason Marcel had a deepseated dislike for the Daeva Dragon Mikhaïl Petrovitch.
- He accidentally almost ripped off Takeda Kyuzo's leg when he tried to jump at a diablerist elder vampire, who claimed to be Dracula.
- At the same time he also almost ripped off the leg of Mikhaïl Petrovitch.
- Some people claim this accident happened, because Marcel couldn't decide who he wanted to attack: the diablerist or Mikhaïl.
- He has been killed by the childe of Takeda Kyuzo as punishment for wounding her sire.
- Marcel and Monseigneur de Villenfagne de Vogelsanck had found proof that Ektor and Cardinal de Béthune were Livians. For this reason Marcel and his bishop were murdered by Ektor.
- The rumors of his death were highly exaggerated.
- It's no coincidence that Marcel returns with a coterie of Sanctified, right after attacks on the Circle of the Crone weakened this covenant. In fact this was all staged together with the Invictus to weaken the Circle of the Crone.
- Marcel Vanerum has diablerised former bishop Laurence de Villenfagne de Vogelsanck
- It is rumoured that he was released and hidden away by the Lancea Sanctum as nobody ever witnessed his execution.

One of their number was sentenced to have his hands cut off and pay a fine for a perceived threat to the Court. And the visiting Archbishop Killpatrick of Antwerp was shot by a sniper.)
- At the start of his interrogation concerning his suspected diablery, while under the effects of the Liar's Plague: "I will not be interrogated by Father_Killpatrick Killpatrick, because he wanted to involve me in an assassination plot against Lord Herzèt and Lord Caluwaert.
