[edit] Reputation
- A man of few words and many silences he is not a pleasant casual conversation partner. Never is there any doubt in his words, never is his answer or question not the result of a long time of consideration. Many times has it been misunderstood as obstinacy but Marcus has simply had ages to build his beliefs, never saying anything about something of which he knows little and finds nothing but eager listeners when talking of theology, (almost) never someone who starts an arguement.
- As an Inquisitor he works almost invisible. His glory days as an Inquisitor are long gone. He still advises the other Inquisitors and supports them with his extensive knowledge on the occult, theology, history and extensive knowledge of languages. Only to enter the public domain as an Inquisitor at trials.
- As a priest he seems to have a fondness of rituals concerning death such as taking confessions of and accompanying a convicted to his execution, or funerals.
- He always claims never to do any politics besides granting council to those who wish it. But as Priscus of the Mekhet he allows himself to publicly defend his family. As such he has quite some name within the Clan.
- He knows many languages but for some reason he doesn't speak a word of English.
- Marcus is a defender and child of the Ancien Régime, supporting Invicti rule but puts moral authority in The Lancea Sanctum only. But his political beliefs that are even more conservative than even the hardest of hardliners lie dormant under his promise to stay away from politics, which he loathes. They are a necessary evil and it is the Invicti's humble duty to sacrifice themselves to this lesser cause of leading the undead society.
- As the chief-librarian of the Keizersberg abbey, he knows everything there is to know about every single book and one of the few that has permanent acces to the secret parts of the library.

[edit] Others about Marcus Dobbelaere
Marcel Vanerum: "I both dread and look forward to working with him. The reason for the dread is that he is uncompromising and unwilling to accept any other visions than his own. The reason why I look forward to working with him, is the same."
[edit] Quotes (translated)
- "It is not difficult to change a certain individual's beliefs from flawed to pure, you simply have to change the books one reads. Now, what book in particular were you looking for, my son?"
- "It is unwise to think the Holy Bible contains nothing of value for us damned. Does not the Testament of Longinus explain the true nature and the place in creation of mortals also?"
- "Leave politics to the archbishop for we know nothing of it, nor do we need to care about it, we on the other hand have the opportunity to deepen our faith and we shall pray for the archbisshop that he still finds time for that."
- "You, my son, are as ignorant as the ocean is deep, find yourself a tutor that can still think of words so simple and of sentences so long as to make you comprehend at least the essentials of what we believe. I guess if I would say something like: of course this notion of 'essential' is heresy for truth is absolute and undivided, you would still look at me with that same horrendous stupidity in your eyes? Indeed you do, leave me."
- "Asking me not to call your Godess the Satan and call you a Crone and not a heretic is asking me not to call the sun, a radiant ball of light."
- "No, you are not a Ventrue. Why? You're wearing sneakers."
- "Do explain the concept of 'exception' to me, if you please."
