  • de Béthune was a founding member of the St.Luc schools and president of the Guilds of St.Thomas and St. Luc.
  • In his mortal life, he designed and oversaw the construction of the Beguinage of Sint-Amandsberg, the church and convent of Vivekapelle, the castles of Loppem and St.Andries,...
  • He was also the designer of the furnishing and windows of the cathedrals of Brugge, Gent, Antwerp and Tournais.
  • As the result of a competition, he was awarded the contract to design and produce a new mosaic for the Carolingian dome at Aix-la-Chapelle.
  • His masterpiece in mortal life was the construcion of the abbey of Maredsous, built in 1873, for which he designed the furniture, windows, the polychrome (painted) interior, the iron and gold ornaments and the liturgical embroideries (most assume he was already a ghoul at that stage in time)
  • The family de Béthune was (and still is) a family of Belgian nobility that owns a great deal of property in West-Flanders and has a great influence within the Christian-Democratic Party of Flanders, having several senators, mayors and members of parlement.
