On Humanity and Civility

Monsters. Wolves. Hunters. Beasts. We are all of these and more. We are the creatures that go bump in the night. We are the things that nightmares are made of. We have the power to embrace this side of our being. We have the power to embrace the monster that we truly are. We have the choice to become the monster that lives within each and everyone of us. We can let ourselves go to our beasts. We can be the monster that lives within us all.

We can terrorize the mortal world back onto the straight and narrow. We can be the force that makes men to see the error of their ways. We can be the examples of God’s wrath. We can become the Monsters that scriptures are written about. But this is not the path that all of us must walk. This is not the way that we all have to go.

We have the choice to fight the beast within each and everyone one of us. We have the choice to become the monsters not Beasts. We must still walk among the world of men. We must still interact with the rest of the world. We cannot effectively walk in that world if we become let ourselves go to the beast. We cannot be stewards of the mortal worlds if we cannot be a part of that world. We cannot let ourselves fall to far for the beasts within us all. We can be Wolves, but we cannot become the rabid wolves. We can become the hunters, but even the coyotes will not hunt themselves to extinction. They must provide for provisions and make sure that the rabbits are there for them to eat.

Lord, our most wise and insightful god, we come to you tonight for your enlightenment and direction. We come to you to ask for your assistance for all of us as we look at the monsters within us all and see the abyss and chaos that is staring back. Help us as each and everyone of us from falling to the monsters that dwell just beneath the surface of each of us.

With your light and wisdom, we pray, Amen.

Falling to the Beast within us all also pulls away from our civility. Our fall from civility makes us become rude creatures that cannot respect others of our world. We must remember that we are all guests in this city. We are guests in most cities. We must remember to respect the Kindred that live here. We should thank those within this great and wonderful city for their welcoming and hospitality. Gatherings of our kind are not without trouble and issues. The citizens of cites we visit will have to live with the reproductions of our gatherings for some time. We should all take a moment to thank them for their openness and hospitality.

Our civility is what separates us from the beasts that showed up last night. The beasts that showed up last night are what we could all look forward to as we let ourselves fall to the beasts within us. Our civilization and our respect for those that live in the cities that we visit, that is what separates us from the beast that is within us.

Lord, our teacher of civility and humility, we come to you tonight to seek your enlightenment and your wisdom. We come to you tonight to help each and every one of us be respectful and civil as you have taught us all to be. We come before you and ask that you show us your wisdom and civility and show us all the lessons that were handed down in your commandments.

With humbleness we ask for your guidance and enlightenment for one and all of us. Amen

As we all disperse tonight to go and spend time with our covenants, clans, friends and neighbors, we should all be respectful. Respectful of each other and the beasts that lives just below the surface of each and everyone of us. To be respectful of our selves, and the beasts that we carry. Finally respectful of this great and wonderful city. We’ve opened our doors, we’ve opened our homes, and we’ve opened our city. Please be mindful and respectful and civilized, we consider you all friends. Please show that we’ve put this faith in everyone is well deserved.
