Pre-Embrace Inglebort Pratt was born to a wealthy merchant family in the Black Forest region of the Holy Roman Empire, what is now Germany. His father was involved in the trading of spices and cocoa, which made him fantastically wealthy, and he married the daughter of one of his closest business partners, the Spagnoli Family of Padua (Venice region). Due to perceived infidelities of both, Inglebort was raised for a time in both countries at the family estates, learning both German and Italian, following the local customs and generally gaining an understanding of the local histories. Inglebort spent quite a long time away from his feuding immediate family, often taking off for days at a time, and quickly became astute at wilderness survival, hunting, trapping and tracking. All valuable skills for his adult profession.
Inglebort joined his local militia which mustered out of Baden and quickly raised in rank from ‘Free Corporal‘, a rank bestowed to members of influential families who joined up. He came to the attention of his superiors and was given a position in a new type of unit, the Jaeger Corps. The Jaegers were the first military unit to consist solely on individuals who were scouts, snipers, assassins and messengers. They were allowed their own weapons and equipment and were given the world’s first ’camouflage’ uniform (it was hunter green and black and had a gentleman’s cap of the time, unlike the typical hessian mercenary, which upheld shiny golden toned 18 inch helmets).

In July, of 1776, some of the English Colonies on the American Continent entered into a revolt. England, busy elsewhere militarily, hired large Hessian forces for it’s war in the New World. Inglebort’s division was conscripted a year after and he spent the majority of his 11 month tour between New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, running communiqués, scouting the Continental Militia Army and generally enjoying his time watching the war from a reasonable distance. Re-enlisting the following year, he served by attempting to disrupt supply lines (which there weren’t any of) and to intercept missives and directives from the Continental Congress in Philadelphia to it’s Generals Washington and Arnold.
He received word that his father had passed away from Cholera and his mother was gravely ill of her own he decided to not go for a third tour and returned home. He returned to the Holy Roman Empire, near the town of Baden where he called home. Finding the rest of his family “self centered egotistical nannies” he proceeded to regress from his family and social obligations but travel more with his father’s business. He met Konrad on one of those trips.
Embrace and Beyond Vermieden is not a made up word. His Sire, Knavel had terrible grammar as German wasn’t his first language, but here is how the name was earned. During his training Knavel had Inglebort ‘tree-ed’ up a massive oak tree and had summoned a few native black bears to retrieve him. Without waiting for those bears to arrive to ruin his night, Inglebort jumped off the tree from about 40 feet height, nearly squashed his Sire and probably could have easily dispatched him as he watched his Sire squirm. He yelled out “Vermieden (the one to avoid)” when he meant “Verboten (dangerous one)”, and the name stuck.
While he was with his Sire, he was done many great disservices. He was taught improper customs and greetings, much to his cruel Sire’s amusement, for once an insult was given, Knavel had to deal with his “insolent” childe or deal with the wrath of the unamused Kindred. Often the abuse was far worse than anything the offended would contemplate Vermieden left the European Continent to travel. What Vermieden learned from all this is that unlife is cruel. He never whined, he never complained. He just did what he was told and took his beatings. He became very good at taking beatings. Vermieden once asked him why he was called the one to avoid, and his Sire just beat him silly, then released him to his own wiles.
Vermieden has met his GrandSire and his Great GrandSire, but has had very little to talk to them about and mostly listened when he was around them. Ryngold was even more cruel than Knavel, and only his Grandsire Konrad seemed to have any empathy for him. He has heard of his ‘illustrious’ lineage, being descended from the great heathen King Mindragas, but he has never put eyes on him and the ‘family’ does not technically care so much in social settings to mention their peerage, which is not all that uncommon for Gangrel. Many times, Vermieden has questioned the very existence of Mindragas as a Kindred as there were no records kept by local Kindred of the area, but he has no reason to even bring his lineage up other than in passing. Of his Sire and GrandSire, they are involved in a personal feud for nearly the full time Vermieden was in the Old Country, so the contact was brief.

By 1805, Vermieden had returned to the New World and began to make a name for himself. Traveling up and down the East Coast of what had become the United States, he more or less kept to the trade he learned in the Jaeger Corps, a claw for hire, a package handler or a scout for targeted information. He was rarely allowed to stay in any of the new cities except for when there were Wildhunts or Gangrel Gathers. In 1830 he was welcomed into the city of Norfolk, Virginia as a Hound, or Scourge. He performed his duties well there for almost 10 years, when the stress and strain on his humanity pushed him to the breaking point.
This is where he loses his memory. Somewhere between 1840 and 2008 is a fuzzy haze. He remembers going to Torpor in a tidal swamp just south of the harbor. He ‘comes to’ waking up in a field in Connecticut, dressed in ’vacation’ clothes, Hawaiian shirt, dirty blue jean shorts and tennis sneakers.
