Washington, DC, Diablerie War

From LanceaSanctum

In the early 1920s, the Lancea Sanctum in Washington, DC, were taken over by a secret coterie of diablerists. Among the residents of Washington at the time was Miguel de la Cruz. His sire, Aroex Xaviar Bastian Valario de la Cruz, was also in the city, but in torpor. As Miguel began to realize the nature of the threat, he woke Aroex, and they set out to gather as many allies as they could to join them in taking down the diablerists. Aroex was put in charge of the city's efforts against the diablerists, and confronted them. The group fled the court, and attempted to set up a rival structure. It failed, due to the strength of the Ordo Dracul prince at the time, and the "diablerist court" never exercised any significant power over the city.

The two factions in the city battled off and on for nearly a decade before the diablerists were finally eradicated. Although it may sound easy, hunting down almost two dozen or so diablerists is a long and dangerous task, as the diablerists were careful not to reveal themselves needlessly, while the non-diablerists were careful not to become easy prey for those who drank souls. Neither side had a reason to widel y advertise the nature of the conflict. Father General de la Cruz kept things quiet so as not to embarass his covenant, by showing so many Sanctified committed this sin, while the diablerists did not wish to make their true numbers (or even true nature) known, lest they draw the wrath of Sanctified Crusaders from around the world.

Instead, it was a quiet war, with long intervals of quiet searching and tracking, punctuated by brief periods of sharp violence. In such a conflict, keeping the Masquerade was not difficult, and the operations of the regular court continued much as they would in any other city. Some vampires were even able to ignore the war entirely, only vaguely aware that some conflict was going on.

During the time, many different vampires came to Washington to help fight the diablerists. Many are listed here, with a brief description as to the role they played.

  • Father General Aroex Xaviar Bastian Valario de la Cruz -- The Father General, so named by the Prince of DC at the time, helped organize the fight against the diablerists as part of his Crusade to clean up the city from the depredations of his own covenant mates.
  • Garrett Kreuzritter -- Eldest Childe of Father General Aroex Xaviar Bastian Valario de la Cruz, fought fiercely on the front lines of the Diablerie War, and provided resources and financial coordination for the combatants.
  • Captain Jack Spade -- A Mendicant Gangrel traveller who provided Theban support and some combat skill. Rumor is that he's one of the reasons why Aspasia wasn't woken up to help with the war.
  • Mackenzie DuMont -- Childe of Aroex, and known Theban Scholar - provided heavy Theban and combat support during the war.
  • Miguel Eduardo Valencia de la Cruz -- Childe of Aroex, and an Invictus of Washington DC, Miguel was primarily responsible for leading small tactical teams to destroy the Diablerists during the War.
  • Otto Krieg -- Then a young mekhet under the direction of Mackenzie Dumont, Provided scouting and pin pointed a few of the diablerists using his sight. Provided Combat support and obfuscation to the other warriors.
  • Rosalyn Wood -- Rosilyn is a Nosferatu of a forgotten past, she knows little of who she was before Otto found her in Torpor, but ever since she has been at his side when he uses his mind to combat his enemies she has an Axe. She accompanied the soldiers and crusaders on many engagements. Her wrath is terrible...don't let the pretty face fool you.
  • Tanya O'Starr -- A perky, irish, nomadic Daeva passing through the city for unknown reasons, she volunteered upon her entry to aid against the diablerie court. Though the young Acolyte wasn't seen in combat, it is said she infiltrated the court itself and secreted vital information out. Tonight, this Daeva is recognized as Elena Santaquilani de la Cruz.
  • Thomas Knowlton -- Thomas supported the war with tactical and strategic advice, but refused to participate physically for personal reasons. Some considered him a coward for this, although he has since changed a few minds.
  • Aniela -- This fierce elder Gangrel came down from NY in the mid-20's to aid in the war, and spent the rest of it fighting on the front lines. A dark and introverted Theban Master who specialized in rituals of war, she did not invite intimacy from her compatriots, but those few who came to know her off the battlefield discovered a surprisingly sharp mind, a love of academic debate, and a fascination with both mortal and kindred theology. By the end of the war, the constant bloodshed had driven her humanity down to the breaking point, and it is rumored she entered torpor in DC and slept for more than a decade, while her body rested and her soul healed. Those who meet her in the current day often do not recognize her at first.
